The WISE Ecosystem met at the Annual Event at Maria 01 in Helsinki to connect and innovate

The WISE Annual Event 2025, held on November 11, was an energising event that brought the WISE Ecosystem together in person to drive the transformation of energy for tomorrow. The seminar was a unique opportunity for the ecosystem to network, gain new insights and accelerate wise ideas.

The seminar featured several interesting keynote speeches and presentations. Malin Östman, Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at Wärtsilä Energy, shared how autonomous power plants will shape the future of energy. “Power systems with a growing share of renewable energy demand more from other assets to address stability and reliability challenges. Next-generation balancers, combined with digital technologies in power plants, make energy systems more resilient and adaptable, supporting the journey toward decarbonisation. We are committed to helping customers reduce emissions, optimise staffing, and achieve full operational visibility for smarter decision-making. By leveraging intelligent operations, remote control, and predictive maintenance, we enable the transformation of power generation for greater efficiency, reliability, and sustainability,” Malin said during her opening speech.

The event furthermore hosted a keynote speech on the start-up way of business by Petteri Ormio, Co-founder and COO of Green Factory AI, and greetings from Business Finland by Tero Ijäs, Ecosystem Manager, Energy. In addition, Sarita Runeberg, CEO of Maria 01, shared the story of Maria 01 — one of Europe’s largest startup ecosystems, a collaborative space for connection and innovation. The programme then continued with workshops, where the participants worked and brainstormed on potential collaboration topics together in smaller groups.

“We are thrilled that WISE Annual Event was successful. Participants shared that they felt inspired, engaging in meaningful workshops on topics of mutual interest. Today we have 245 ecosystem members and 86 are currently collaborating on WISE projects. Our wide mix of ecosystem members consists of 44 % medium-sized enterprises, 35 % corporations, 17 % academia & research institutes and 4 % other communities. It was fantastic to meet again and reflect on our wise journey. Looking forward to the next steps ahead!” highlights Eleonor Hedström, Director of Next Business Lab and WISE Ecosystem Lead at Wärtsilä.

All in all, the event gathered around 70 participants, including business representatives, start-ups, academia, and research institutes, fostering meaningful connections across the ecosystem.
